Matt Hall

I'm a researcher interested in design and sustainability, with a background in mechanical engineering, energy systems, and offshore renewable energy. I've specialized in floating wind turbines for 15 years, including floating support structure design optimization, mooring dynamics modelling, wave basin hybrid (SIL) testing, and design of floating arrays. At the University of Prince Edward Island, I taught about design and renewable energy in the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering. At the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), I led a research portfolio and team focused on holistic floating wind farm design. I lead IEA Wind Task 49 on the same topic. In early 2026, I joined SINTEF in Norway to continue working on offshore wind.
